In case of medical urgencies, call Hinds Hospice first

Call your Hospice Care Team for all medical needs and urgent situations

As a hospice patient, all health care services (i.e., hospitalizations and emergency room visits) must be coordinated by your Hospice Team these services may not be covered.

After-hours services

A nurse is always available to assist you with urgent issues, even after regular office hours, on weekends and during holidays.
Your call will be answered by a nurse who will address your needs and coordinate with our Care Team. 

When to call after hours

  • Pain that does not respond to medicines on hand
  • Any falls
  • New symptoms – i.e., labored breathing, agitation, or restlessness
  • No urination after eight hours, with discomfort
  • No bowel movement after three days
  • Uncontrolled symptoms – i.e., nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or bleeding
  • Temperature above 101F that does not respond to Tylenol
  • Patient unable to wake up (new problem)
  • Catheter leakage
  • Chest pain
  • Patient death

When to call on weekdays during business hours

  • Medication refills
  • Request for supplies, visit, or schedule change
  • Questions about lab work or tests
  • Questions about scheduling of visits
  • Message for the Hospice Care Team
  • General questions or concerns
