Peter & Helen Brady
Remembered by Kathy Martinez
During WW II while on leave in Tacoma, WA, Navy seaman, Peter Joseph Brady was to meet the love of his life, Helen Selwyn during the Thanksgiving Holidays. And by March of that year was to marry her, beginning a 50 year journey of life together as man & wife! Peter & Helen helped God to create two beautiful children, Kathy & Peter, Jr. during their years spent in Tacoma. They were to have the joy of watching their two grandsons, Chad & Brady Matoian grow into wonderful young men, also.
Peter saw much combat during his time in the navy & he promised God that if he allowed him to live, that after the war, he would go home & “give back” to his community! His was a true patriot & believer in the American way of life. Peter, an electrician by profession, & Helen, a full time mother, worked hard to provide for their family after the war, but they never forgot that promise Peter made. They were always involved in their Catholic Parish serving others in need. Peter received numerous awards through the years for his works with blind children & the Boy Scouts. He remained a member of the National Guard into his golden years and at the age of 85, he was still bowling.
Peter & Helen were wonderful examples of what true love, commitment, charity and caring for others was in our world! They showed by example to all that knew them what it meant to spread God’s love!
