Hinds Hospice has partnered with StoryCorps Legacy to record and preserve the stories of people affected by serious illness.

A StoryCorps conversation is a chance to talk with someone about his or her life. For 40 minutes, you can ask questions that really matter:

·        What are some lessons you’ve learned in life?
·        What are you most proud of?
·        How would you like to be remembered?

You may want to talk with a family member or friend, but are afraid you won’t think of the right questions. No worries! StoryCorps has a list of “great questions” to use for conversation starters.

A few weeks after the conversation, you’ll receive a free CD to share with family and friends. It is a gift for this generation and the next. With your permission, a second copy will be archived in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

StoryCorps Legacy is an audio project only. No video will be taken.

How do I set up a StoryCorps Legacy conversation?

Please contact Angela at ABisel@hindshospice.org or 559-317-6016. Or fill in the form below and submit it. We will quickly contact you to answer questions and provide additional information.

How much does this cost?

There is no charge for anyone served by Hinds Hospice . . .    Except the interview is priceless!

David Isay, Founder of Storycorps

“Looking a loved one in the eyes and asking about his or her life is one of the greatest gifts we can give one another,” says StoryCorps founder and president Dave Isay. “The simple act of listening tells them how much they matter, and documenting that conversation for posterity tells them that they won’t be forgotten.”

“We all want to feel that our life had meaning and the world is better
because we lived in it,” says Nancy Hinds, RN, Founder of Hinds Hospice. “I feel this is true no matter what a person’s age. I believe that every moment we live has purpose. The legacy that StoryCorps offers is that it allows the most common or incredible stories to be told and to have permanence.”

Thanks to a generous grant from Susan G. Komen Central Valley, Hinds Hospice was able to purchase StoryCorps recording equipment in 2013 to record the stories of patients and their families at Hinds Hospice and several of the Cancer Centers that Hinds Hospice has partnered with.
